What Exactly Is 602 Day?
602 Day is a fantastic initiative celebrating all things Phoenix, observed annually on June 2nd (6/02). The “602” famously represents the original area code that covered Phoenix and much of Arizona for decades, becoming a recognizable symbol of our city.
Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego says, “602 Day is a celebration of everything Phoenix – our local businesses, diverse neighborhoods, and the creative spirit that drives our City forward… It’s a chance for residents to show their hometown pride, discover new local experiences, and sample some great cuisine. I’m proud to see our community come together for a day that’s uniquely and proudly Phoenix.”
More than just a number, 602 Day is a chance for everyone: residents, local businesses, and community organizations to showcase their Phoenix pride. It’s a day to:
- Celebrate our unique culture, from the arts scene to our diverse culinary landscape.
- Support local by highlighting the incredible businesses that make Phoenix thrive.
- Connect with community by sharing stories and experiences about what makes the 602 a special place to live, work, and play.
- Honor our history by recognizing the journey of our city and the people who’ve shaped it.
Join the 602 Day celebration in style with a State Forty Eight 602 Day Shirt. Annually, the City of Phoenix partners with local businesses and organizations to offer special discounts and deals, and host events and activities that promote community spirit and honor 602 as the City’s most historically significant area code. $5 per shirt sold will be donated back to the City of Phoenix.
