Finding Wonder: Your Guide to Competitive Entries at the 2026 Arizona State Fair

When you picture the Arizona State Fair, you probably think of the Ferris wheel lights glowing against the Phoenix skyline, the roar of the crowd inside the Coliseum, or the smell of fresh funnel cake. But right at the center of all that fun is our Competitive Entries.

This is where the magic really happens. It’s in the quiet, early-morning dedication of grooming livestock in the barns, and it’s in the breathtaking talent hanging on the walls of our art galleries. The Fair is the ultimate stage for Arizona’s collective passion, hard work, and imagination, a place where everyday hobbies turn into total moments of wonder.

Where Discipline and Dedication Meet: Livestock

At the Arizona State Fair, wonder isn’t only found under the neon lights, it’s found in the early mornings where our agricultural community shines. The Livestock Division connects us deeply to Arizona’s ranching heritage, spotlighting dedicated youth programs (like 4-H and FFA) and open-class competitors who have spent months preparing their animals for the big stage.

Every week of the Fair features a different showcase in the Agriculture Center, giving you a reason to visit again and again:

  • Small Stock Specialties (Oct 1–4): Witness the delightful world of the Poultry Show and the Rabbit & Cavy Show. From tiny Netherland Dwarfs to massive Flemish Giants, these furry and feathered favorites kick off opening weekend.
  • Youth Livestock Show (Oct 8–11): Cheer on Arizona’s future agricultural leaders as they compete for the coveted Grand Champion title with prize-winning cattle, swine, sheep, and goats. Don’t miss the Market Turkey Show!
  • Sheep & Goat Shows (Oct 15–Nov 1): The latter half of the Fair welcomes beautiful Sheep, Meat Goat, and Dairy Goat shows.

Unleashing Wonder: Exhibit Entries

If your talents lean toward the arts, the kitchen, or the garden, the Exhibits Division is where your imagination takes center stage. This division celebrates the true artisans of our communities across an array of unique departments:

  • Fine Arts & Photography: Walk through our revamped Fine Arts Gallery to see stunning oil paintings, sculptures, and glass mediums, or take a visual trip across our state through the lens of local photographers.
  • Home & Culinary Arts: From stunning hand-stitched quilts and intricate wood carvings to the finest jams, jellies, and pies, this area highlights classic family traditions with a modern twist.
  • Horticulture: Showcasing the green thumbs of the desert! Walk among flourishing single-stem roses, home-grown vegetables, and unique container gardens.
  • Youth & Student Arts: A free program showcasing the breathtaking artwork created by students from all four corners of Arizona throughout their school year.

This Year’s Special Theme: We invite professional artists, amateur creators, youth, and photographers alike to participate in our “A State of Wonder” special exhibit. Entries will be judged on how beautifully they interpret the magic, vibrant moments, and imagination that turn the ordinary into something extraordinary.
