Get ready, Phoenix! The rumors are true, Arizona’s very own indie-pop duo, The Format, are officially joining the star-studded lineup for the Coliseum Concert Series! This is massive for fans who have followed Nate Ruess and Sam Means since their early days here in the Valley.
The beloved indie-pop duo The Format is truly back. This fall, Nate Ruess and Sam Means will reunite for three very special full-band performances, beginning with a hometown show on Saturday, September 27th, in Phoenix, AZ, in the historic Veterans Memorial Coliseum at the Arizona State Fair. From here, the band will perform in New York and conclude their mini-tour in Los Angeles. More than just a concert, the Phoenix date will be a festival-style event with an outdoor side stage curated by The Format. This stage will feature intimate, stripped-down performances from some of the city’s most exciting rising artists, including Sydney Sprague, Astrologer, JPW & Dad Weed. These outdoor sets will bookend The Format’s own headlining performance inside the Coliseum.
For those who might not know, The Format isn’t just any band. Born right here in Arizona, this duo carved out a unique sound that blends indie, alternative, punk, and folk, often with a nostalgic nod to ’60s and ’70s pop. You can hear their Arizona roots throughout their tracks that capture everyday life: You can’t listen to “Tune Out” without nodding along if you’ve ever been stuck on the 51, or feel the heartfelt connection in songs like “The Compromise” or “She Doesn’t Get It,” which became anthems for so many. After a hiatus and Nate Ruess’s massive success with fun., The Format’s return is a highly anticipated event, and bringing them to the historic Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum is a true homecoming.
