As the Arizona State Fair wrapped up another incredible year, we’re left with the memories of an event that brought the community together in all the best ways possible. Marking the Fair’s 140th anniversary, the 2024 Arizona State Fair was one for the books! Over the course of 23 days, fairgoers from all over the country were treated to an experience filled with thrilling rides, indulgent eats, and unforgettable moments that encompassed Arizona’s spirit, creativity, and heritage.
One highlight of this year’s Fair was the wide variety of competitive entries that showcased the community’s talent and creativity. Fairgoers admired 80 hand-stitched quilts, savored 207 mouth-watering cookies, and marveled at 738 wooly sheep. The Market Steer competition featured a steer tipping weighing in at an impressive 1,464 pounds. Let’s not forget about Zona– a lamb born right on the fairgrounds, stealing the hearts of visitors of all ages!
Arizona’s next generation of agricultural leaders also had their chance to shine. This year, the Youth Sale of Champions Auction had a 14 percent increase in sales compared to last year. Local art sales also soared by 17 percent, reflecting the Fair’s dedication to uplifting community talent.
Speaking of dedication, Fairgoers devoured over 40,000 pounds of sweet favorites like cotton candy, lemonade, and other irresistible baked goods. What about the classics? Nearly eight miles worth of corn dogs and two truckloads of turkey legs were consumed, with two swimming pools worth of batter used for deep-fried delicacies. Needless to say, the Fair was a feast for all.
The Fair wasn’t only about fun and food though; it also embodied the community’s spirit to give back. This year, Fairgoers donated more than 84, 961 pounds of food to benefit St. Mary’s Food Bank. This remarkable contribution supports food-insecure families across Arizona and reflects the Fair’s commitment to uplifting lives and making a difference. Together, we’re not only celebrating fun and excitement– we’re spreading kindness and hope.
