FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Represent Arizona and Decorate People's Tree in Washington DC
Deadline for entry Sept. 15
This year the Arizona State Fair offers a chance to represent our great state in Washington DC with the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree ("People's Tree") ornament contest. A 65-foot spruce from Arizona will stand majestically tall at the U.S. Capital in Washington D.C. Along with the tree, Arizona will be sending thousands of ornaments to decorate the "People's Tree."
All ages and abilities are encouraged to enter, but entry forms must be submitted online no later than Sept. 15. Both the Creative Crafts & Collections department and the Fine Arts Department are accepting ornaments in a variety of categories. For Creative Crafts & Collections, the entry fee is $1 and any handcrafted ornament can be entered into such categories as Fair themed, wood, ceramic, glass, and sewn, knitted or needlework. All Creative Crafts ornaments must be dropped off at the fairgrounds on Saturday, Oct. 3 or Sunday, Oct. 4 between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the Wesley Bolin Building. All ornaments will be judged for a chance to win cash prizes of $5, $3, and $2 for the first, second and third place ribbons, respectively.
The entry fee for the Fine Arts department is $8 and exhibitors can submit ornaments in such categories as mixed media, wood, ceramic, glass and metal. All Fine Arts ornaments must be dropped off at the fairgrounds on Thursday, October 1; Friday, October 3 or Saturday, Oct. 3 between 8:00 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the North Hall Coliseum. First, second and third place will be awarded cash prizes of $50, $25 and $10.
Ornaments will be displayed on Christmas trees in the Wesley Bolin Building and North Hall Coliseum for the run of the Fair. After the Fair is completed, the ornaments will be packed and shipped to Washington D.C.
Entry forms can be found on the Fair's 2009 website with all the rules and regulations for the "People's Tree" ornament competition. It's available at http://azstatefair.com/contests/peoplestree.aspx.
