Great Eggs-pectations at the Arizona State Fair

It was an egg-cellent day at the Arizona State Fair as fairgoers witness history after the Arizona Science Center broke the Guinness World Record for the largest object drop inertia experiment.

Today on October 19, 2023, the Arizona Science Center successfully dropped 155 eggs safely into water-filled cups.

The Arizona Science Center along with Valley students, gathered over 250 eggs and glasses of water and proceeded to drop the eggs simultaneously into these cups of water, demonstrating the scientific properties of inertia. Inertia is an object’s ability to resist changes in motion unless acted upon by an external force.

The Arizona Science Center shattered the previous record of 138 held by television personalities, Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest, four years ago.

“We are so thrilled to have been a part of this record-breaking attempt with Arizona Science Center,” said Wanell Costello, Executive Director at the Arizona State Fair. “When we were first approached with the idea, it was almost a no-brainer to have the Science Center team out on our stage. We are so grateful to now be known as the location of the largest object drop in recorded history.”

Not only did the Arizona Science Center break the Guinness World Record, but they also partnered with Phoenix Rescue Mission’s Hope for Hunger Food Bank to donate all the eggs used in the demonstration.
