Stick With Canola Oil Fry It For The Fair Contest

The quest for the best deep-fried foods is here!  Make your entry with up to 10 ingredients, fry it in any brand of 100% canola oil and put it on a stick!  We’re talking the most delicious, most delightful and most delectable state fair themed entries!  Canola oil has no trans fat, is low in saturated and has no cholesterol.  It is one of the healthiest cooking oils available.  Canola oil has a high “smoke point” making foods light and crispy, plus golden brown and delicious!  Creativity, taste, presentation and convenience make up the new criteria this year.  Compete for cash prizes and blue ribbon glory.

Each place winner receives a ribbon, certificate and apron.

Entry Requirements:

  1. Anything edible, deep fried and served on a stick is welcome.  Prepare your entry in a deep fryer or comparable container and use at least two (2) cups canola oil, any brand.
  2. 2. To focus on convenience, use no more than 10 ingredients in addition to the canola oil.  The ingredient maximum does not include salt, pepper, garnishes, dips or presentation decorations.
  3. 3. Be sure to stick with state fair theme and serve your dish on any sort of stick(s)!  Be creative with the sticks, too.
  4. Contestants may be asked to demonstrate their recipe for an audience.  If so, the request will come with reasonable notice and by prior mutual arrangement.
  5. State which brand of canola oil you used in your recipe and submit the container or product label with your entry.  Photocopies of labels are allowed.
  6. If space allows, you may “plate” (set up/garnish, etc.) your entry at the fair, as long as it is ready prior to commencement of judging.
  7. Entries (cooked prior to delivery) will be judged live at the fair based on the following factors: Creativity: 25%, Taste: 25%, Presentation: 25%, and Convenience: 25%.
  8. Contestants must be 18 years of age or older and may enter one recipe per person.
  9. Recipe must be typed on an 8 ½” x 11” sheet of paper and be submitted with entry, along with contestant’s name, address, phone number and e-mail address.
  10. Upon submission, all recipes become the property of the sponsor and the fair, which have the right to publish, promote or advertise the recipes and the contestants’ names and photos without compensation.
  11. Judges are selected by the fair and their decisions are final.  The fair and sponsor are not responsible for lost or disqualified entries.
  12. Taxes on prizes are the responsibility of the winner.
  13. The 2007 first place winners are not eligible to compete in 2008.
